Our team at overhaul has a special passion for restoring log homes. Each home is unique and tells a different story. We take pride in our knowledge and attention to detail while resurrecting and preserving these stoic structures.

Our Restoration Process

Masking: using special masking materials we ensure the safety of all windows, doors, and any surfaces that are prone to damage during the blasting process.
Blasting: we fine tune our blasting process to fit the specific project condition. The previous coatings applied, UV damage, age of the wood, and wood type plays a big roll in the proper blasting technique. Based off of those conditions, we choose the correct grit of crushed glass media, blasting PSI, nozzle, and media volume to properly strip the wood of its current finish, reaching sound wood without damage.
Crushed glass media: specifically designed media to cut the finish off of wood evenly and quickly. The crushed glass we use is EPA approved and not at all dangerous to the touch.
Sanding: Sanding with 80grit post blasting helps ensure a smooth, even, and longer lasting finish. It knocks down the high points, closes pores, and ensures proper adhesion/ penetration of the new surface coating.
Staining:
After all the hard work of preparation is done, it's time to preserve with a finish and make your home look brand new for years to come. We highly recommend using Capture by Sashco, a water based stain with multiple layers of protection.
1st coat: Colorfast primer
This layer is the foundation for an even and smooth finish. The primer fills in open wood pores and dries clear, creating a blank canvas for the artwork to come.
2nd coat: Capture stain
The primary purpose of the first coat of Capture is to deeply penetrate the wood, ensuring optimal adhesion and protection. It's applied to the point of refusal, meaning the wood won't absorb any more stain, forcing it into the pores. This initial coat is crucial for long-term performance and sets the foundation for subsequent coats.
3rd coat: Capture stain
The second coat of Capture serves to deepen the color and enhance the overall appearance of the wood, providing a richer, more uniform finish. The added pigment in the second coat also gives additional UV protection.
4th coat: Cascade clear coat
Cascade provides a weather-repellent, crystal-clear finish that protects wood surfaces from moisture, mildew, and algae. It enhances the natural beauty of the wood while offering long-lasting protection against the elements.
